NMC's Best of series is the go-to guide to discovering travel destinations or a new home base. The NMC team explores popular venues, restaurants and attractions across Austin, Texas.

In this edition of Best of Austin, the team is spotlighting the town of Dripping Springs.

Welcome to Dripping Springs

Located just 30 miles from Austin, Dripping Springs has a rich history. Spanning three counties – Blanco, Hayes and Travis County – it is the largest Extra Territorial Jurisdiction (ETJ), with a population of about 6,000. Known as the "Gateway to Hill Country," it's the perfect town in Central Texas to enjoy the great outdoors, with picturesque attractions, including nature preserves, live oak woodlands and sprawling rolling hills.

In 2015, its outdoor appeal earned Dripping Springs the official title of Wedding Capital of Texas. In a 15-mile radius, couples have over 35 venues, including historic mansions, churches and even a Vietnamese chapel.

When not in town for a wedding, visitors and residents of Dripping Springs enjoy live music, good food, and craft cocktails from the town's wineries and distilleries, like Treaty Oak Distillery. Founded in 2006 in North Austin, it was the fourth distillery to open in Texas. In 2016, it expanded to Dripping Springs, introducing residents to classic Texas barbeque, live music and whiskey and gin production. For a more family-friendly eatery, Dripping Springs has a plethora of locally owned cafes that are sure to cure your sweet tooth.
